#2007 - Legion Meeting

"Brother Soshjan is not an outsider; we have shared much important information and understand each other's missions."

After everyone stood still, Azrael's voice echoed in the dim secret chamber. He had said these words before, but he reiterated them.

"He is a trustworthy ally."

The people around the viewing screen remained silent. Perhaps only the Dark Angels understood the meaning of this silence. Soshjan cleared his throat and said:

"Thank you for your trust, Brother Azrael. Captain Samuel must have said what needed to be said, but I have some new information to share."

Then, Soshjan briefly recounted the contents of the previous Inquisition meeting and mentioned that Grand Inquisitor Tork Madar was tracking the Fallen Angels and the Daemon Prince.

"Tork Madar seems confident in catching those traitors, but I don't know how much he actually knows."

"Where are they!"

A threatening growl sounded. Soshjan looked over and saw Interrogator-Chaplain Asmodai.

The interrogator had removed his helmet, revealing his sharp cheekbones, sunken eyes, and shaved head. His skin was dark, with only pale, striped scars on his forehead and left cheek. His black, pearl-like eyes were fixed on Soshjan, without a trace of awe or caution.

Although he knew that this person was very fanatical, Soshjan frowned at this almost offensive directness.

"Asmodai, if you cannot control your emotions, then put on your helmet."

Another deep voice sounded, so low that it was hard to realize it came from a Space Marine.

It was Grand Master Sapphon who spoke.

"Those guys have violated the Caliban Protocols and must be silenced immediately!"

Asmodai appeared agitated about the Inquisitor's knowledge of the Fallen Angels, even twitching at the corners of his mouth. If they weren't here, he might have gone berserk and led people down to the planet to find those Inquisitors and 'interrogate' them one by one.

"Asmodai, I don't think I need to remind you to respect everyone present, including Supreme Grand Master Commander Soshjan. Also, as your superior, I have the authority to demand that you remain silent about anything before I allow you to discuss other matters. Am I clear?"

Perhaps scolding a brother in front of an outsider seemed a bit excessive to most Space Marines, but the Dark Angels who knew Asmodai very well knew that scolding and persuasion were ineffective on this almost paranoid Interrogator-Chaplain. This one was notoriously difficult.

"I am just fulfilling my duty."

Asmodai stood motionless, his hands clasped tightly around the string of black pearls, his eyes fixed on Soshjan like an eagle watching its prey.

"Those Inquisitors will definitely bring trouble. I know them very well, so the best solution before they cause more trouble is to make them disappear, the sooner the better."

Soshjan couldn't help but sigh. Only the Dark Angels would openly say that they wanted to kill Inquisitors.

He smiled and said:

"The tragedy of the Sorrowful Stars has already happened. If there is a second time, it will definitely attract the attention of the Inquisition headquarters on Terra. Tork Madar is not low in status and probably has backers on Terra. We can't move against this kind of person easily. In fact, they don't have any clear evidence now."

"We can't take the risk! We will act quickly, Chapter Master Soshjan, and won't bring you trouble, believe me—"

"Asmodai, your efforts against the oldest enemy are outstanding, and your dedication is exemplary. However, why do you so easily seek confrontation? Are there not enough enemies in the galaxy? How much trouble has your impulsive behavior caused the Chapter? Can you not understand Chapter Master Soshjan's meaning? Or has spending too much time in the interrogation chamber made your head as stubborn as the rocks inside it?"

Sapphon continued to interrupt Asmodai with insulting words. The Interrogator-Chaplain looked like he was about to explode, the veins on his neck throbbing with the beating of his twin hearts, his entire skin turning red, his eyes narrowed, and his chin twitching with insult.

Soshjan then smiled and extended his hand.

"Actually, the key to the problem is not here, Chaplain Asmodai. Has anyone considered a question: how could those secretive Fallen Angels be caught by the tail by such an arrogant guy like Tork Madar?"

Azrael, who had been silent, brightened up after hearing this.

"Brother Soshjan, are you saying that this Inquisitor is actually a trap?"

"After all, there are no such coincidences. The Inquisitor was attracted to the Great Warp by the Fallen Angels, and Brother Samuel was also attracted to the Great Warp by the Fallen Angels. Even the Daemon Prince revealed his actions and identity in front of Brother Samuel. If it was a fool, it would not have survived until now. The fact proves that it must be very cunning. Does the repeated exposure of such cunning prey indicate something?"

Hearing Soshjan's series of analyses, even the angry Asmodai fell into contemplation.

Azrael walked back and forth with his hands behind his back, then clapped his hands lightly.

"It seems that Mabuse wants to lure us here."

This was the first time Soshjan had heard the name of this Daemon Prince. He had wanted to ask Tork Madar before, but he thought that the other party would probably not answer, so he gave up. He didn't expect Azrael to take the initiative to say it, and even the two Chapter Masters showed surprised expressions.

Azrael turned to look at Soshjan, then paused.

"Oh, Brother Soshjan may not have heard of this."

Then, the viewing screen was lit up, and a demon image appeared in the viewing screen with two wings on its back, a lion's head, black armor, a sword in one hand, and a hammer in the other. Its shoulder armor also bore the old Dark Angels Legion logo and lion carvings.

"Mabuse was a captain in the former Legion, a disgusting and reviled bastard, even among the dirty Fallen Angels. Only he was promoted to Daemon Prince by Chaos. It is not yet known why he was promoted. The first record of his appearance was in M36. He leads a group of Fallen Angels who have completely fallen into Chaos. Known members include 'Blade' Rahal and 'Black Scepter' Hafas. Their bodies and minds have been dedicated to the Chaos Gods and are scourges that must be eradicated!"

Soshjan stroked his chin.

"Has anyone in your Chapter fought it before?"

"No, Samuel only saw it."

"In other words, the strength of this Daemon Prince is still uncertain."

"Yes, but it is very cunning, which is much more terrible than brute force. It is feared that luring us to the Great Warp has a darker conspiracy."
