#139 - Chapter 25: Bolton's Tragedy (Part 2)
It's normal for soldiers to be a bit crude, especially since these women were quite attractive. They didn't expect to find such good-looking women in this barbaric place. The desire that had been building up during their long voyages at sea was immediately ignited.
Even those who remained on the ship peeked their heads out to see that there were indeed women, and they all disembarked to gather around the women, making comments about their appearances. These Bolton family soldiers showed no vigilance whatsoever; not a single one had bothered to put on their full armor, finding it cumbersome and leaving it on the ship.
The women lifted the cloth covering the wicker baskets, revealing the food inside: a type of bread made from rye, somewhat similar to the baguettes commonly seen. The women picked up the bread and approached the men around them.
A grotesque soldier, with a lecherous grin, went forward to meet them. His right hand reached out to grope a woman's buttocks, but the woman didn't resist; instead, she moved even closer, offering the bread to the man's mouth.
The man opened his mouth with a wide smile, "Ahhh... Ah! Ugh..." His previous lewd expression turned to one of terror. The woman, who had been all seductive smiles, now had an icy glint in her eyes, and she forcefully shoved the entire baguette into the man's mouth. Before the man could react further, a sharp blade pierced through the back of his neck. A short sword had been hidden inside the bread.
The women's sudden attack caught the unsuspecting men completely off guard. The tallest woman among them rushed forward and kicked a man squarely in the groin, then swiftly slit his throat with a short sword in her left hand, sending blood spurting high into the air. Another woman jumped high, using her knees to pin a soldier's shoulders and neck, and stabbed a sword into his temple.
Six women faced ten burly soldiers, and in just a few moments, they had taken down eight of them. Only the two soldiers who were slightly further away had temporarily escaped the deadly assault. Now, witnessing their comrades' bloodied corpses, they finally came to their senses and immediately began to run back.
One of the women grabbed a head, still wearing its helmet, and threw it with great force. Her aim was perfect; it struck the man directly in the back of the head. The attacked man immediately toppled to the ground. The only survivor had already grasped the ship's railing. Two short swords struck him squarely in the back, one after the other, pinning him alive to the ship's side.
The tall woman, wielding a long spear, approached the soldier who had been knocked down by the head. The man cried out in terror, "No, no! Please spare me!"
"Thunk!" The sharp spear pierced through his chest. The woman wiped the blood from her face and turned back to give a whistle. Dozens of people emerged from the houses near the docks, quickly making their way to the ships.
"Hurry and clean this up. Everyone else, lie in ambush on the ship. If Grig doesn't manage to stop them, it'll be up to us," the woman quickly issued instructions.
"Yes, Big Sister Nina!" the crowd responded in unison. This woman was indeed Nina. Liu Yuan was so annoyed by her constant pestering that he didn't bring her with him on this trip back to his fief.
Tabek looked at the increasingly narrow streets on either side and said with some dissatisfaction, "Where are we going? This isn't the way we went last time."
The guide said, "I'm sorry, Lord Bolton. There was a fire there last month, and many houses were burned down. They are still clearing it up, so we'll just go through this section."
"Hmph," Tabek didn't pay much attention. But after turning the bend ahead, the guide who had been walking in front suddenly disappeared, leaving only an empty alleyway.
"Huh? Where did he go?" The sudden change caught Tabek off guard. The veteran soldier who had been following him closely quickly drew his weapon and moved to his side, saying, "My Lord, something is not right! Let's retreat!" The other soldiers also drew their weapons, cautiously looking around.
"Clang... Clang..." The sound of metal striking metal echoed. A tall figure appeared in front of them. He was clad in heavy metal armor, with no gaps visible, and carried an enormous battle axe on his shoulder.
The man stopped in front of them and flipped open his visor, saying, "Hey, Bolton bastards, remember me? Didn't expect this, did you? I'm still alive. Thanks to the gods for allowing me to run into you here. Gave me a chance to take revenge personally. Doesn't your Bolton family like skinning people? I'll personally peel your skin off later."
The expression on Tabek's face was a sight to behold. He actually recognized this guy. Grig, the young clan leader of the Stan clan, was captured by him personally. He was deeply impressed by this guy because of his large size. He should have been killed, but he sold him to a slave trader for five gold dragons. Why would someone from the Stan clan appear in the territory of the Magna clan?
The sound of footsteps rang out, and a large number of people poured out of the surrounding alleys, all holding various weapons. Even the rooftops were filled with crossbowmen. After the clan members joined Liu Yuan's forces, the crossbows that were phased out of the regular army were provided to the people under his rule for hunting in large quantities.
What terrified the Bolton soldiers the most was that these barbarians tore off their bulky fur robes, revealing the armor underneath. The style and craftsmanship looked very exquisite, belonging to standard armor, and only a few large forces could possess such armor-making technology.
Tabek was not the kind of useless playboy; his title was also earned through battle. He had participated in the War of the Nine Copper Plates and all the battles of the Northern Army in the Usurper's War. Being surrounded by a superior number of enemies in this relatively open area was extremely dangerous. He immediately ordered a retreat! Retreat back the way they came, into the narrow alley. The soldiers' individual bravery was unwelcome in the narrow alley, and numbers were not so important.
But screams came from behind them, and soon someone shouted, "Sir, the road behind us is blocked. Those barbarians actually set a fire, and the brothers can't get out!"
Tabek's face was as black as the bottom of a pot, and he shouted loudly, "Form ranks! Raise shields! Pay attention to protection, watch out for enemy arrows!" As it turned out, his orders were quite timely. Not long after he spoke, waves of arrows rained down. "Pitter-patter!" Many arrows were deflected by the shields! "Thud, thud, thud!" Many also stuck into the shields, and of course, some arrows shot through the gaps in the shields, injuring the people inside.
Under these circumstances, they couldn't care about their injuries. The soldiers gritted their teeth and broke off the arrows in their bodies, continuing to huddle together, hiding behind their shields. If someone died or was injured beyond saving, their bodies were immediately and ruthlessly used by their comrades as shields.
