#203 - Chapter 13: Riot in King's Landing

Daenerys looked particularly stunning today, as Xaro had warned her that the self-regarded elegant royalty would never listen to Dothraki. She dressed carefully before going, having to style herself in the Qarth way. She wore a flowing green silk dress, revealing half of her breasts, silver sandals, a belt of black and white pearls, a silver necklace inlaid with magical amethyst, and a crown on her head.

Daenerys Targaryen visited the royalty, requesting Qarth to lend their fleet of great sailing ships and some soldiers to help her return to Westeros and seize power. For this, she specially brought Rhaegal, the most docile of her dragons, named after her deceased brother Rhaegar Targaryen, with green and bronze scales. Under Daenerys's command, it perched motionless on her shoulder.

The main hall of the House of a Thousand Seats was simpler than expected, with murals depicting Qarth's past glory on the circular ceiling. Hundreds of huge seats were arranged in an arc, rising in tiers from the marble floor to the high circular ceiling.

These chairs were not only huge but also strangely carved, their gilded surfaces bright and magnificent, inlaid with amber, agate, jade, and emerald. Each chair was different, vying for beauty. Only those whose contributions to Qarth were unanimously recognized by the other royals could add a chair of their own in the hall.

The seats for the royals to hear petitions were the huge chairs of their ancestors. Mathos Mallarawan, Xandro Xhoan Daxos, and Aggo Emross, whom Daenerys knew, also sat high above, listening to Daenerys's request along with the other royals.

However, as she spoke, the royals sitting in the ornate wooden chairs looked listless. If they weren't yawning from time to time, Daenerys would have thought they were asleep. The royals showed no interest in her proposal. Xandro said a few good words for her, but Mathos remained silent, saying nothing. The royals exchanged glances and ultimately rejected her request. They were courteous and tactful, but the meaning was clear: they had no interest in distant Westeros. Aggo voted against her along with the others.

Their contemptuous attitude made Daenerys very annoyed! They were snobs, especially those three guys who took her money but didn't speak up for her.

Xaro Xhoan Daxos was not summoned and could only wait outside. Seeing Daenerys come out, he immediately greeted her and asked, "How was it? Did the royals agree to your request? Did you flatter them?"

Daenerys said angrily, "I flattered them shamelessly, I said all the nice things I could, I was almost crying on the spot T﹏T, but they still rejected me!"

Xaro: "Maybe if you shed some tears, it might have been more effective!"

Daenerys: "I am a true dragon~ A true dragon should not shed tears!"

Xaro: "Alright! Daughter of the True Dragon, I'll introduce you to other magnates who might be able to help you. I also have some connections with the Spice Guild, but I can't speak for you there because the Tourmaline Brotherhood and the Thirteen are at odds."

Daenerys: "Okay! I will try my best to persuade them!"

Sean's intelligence work was excellent. As soon as Daenerys came out of the House of a Thousand Seats, Liu Yuan received information about her itinerary for the day. Sean: "Sir, time is a bit tight. More detailed information will be available later."

Liu Yuan waved his hand: "You have already done a great job."

Sean: "Sir, do you need me to invite Daenerys?" He had seen that Daenerys was a beauty and thought Liu Yuan was interested in her beauty.

Liu Yuan: "No need, just keep an eye on her. Focus your attention on the House of the Undying and the warlocks. I want to know the details inside."

………………………………………

The war had been going on for more than half a year and had almost destroyed the entire Riverlands' production. Grain from the Reach had also been cut off, and grain from the Westerlands and Stormlands was even less reliable.

The grain in Duskendale and Rosby was limited and prioritized for the nobles and the church, followed by the wealthy, and finally the common people. As for the bottom-level poor, they were almost out of food.

Septon Ebrose was reciting prayers, praying for the departing Princess. To improve the image of the royal family and gain more support, Myrcella could not escape the fate of a princess. At the young age of eleven, she was sent to Dorne for marriage. She was to marry Trystane Martell, the youngest son of Prince Doran Martell. The two would marry late after they came of age. The Martell family accepted the proposal. Myrcella, accompanied by Ser Arys Oakheart of the Kingsguard, first sailed to Braavos, then met with the Dornish escort before heading south.

Today was the day of her departure. Tommen cried miserably, truly unwilling to let his sister leave.

Joffrey didn't feel anything and scolded: "Tommen, you cry like a kitten. A prince shouldn't cry! It's boring to stay here. Hound! Let's go!"

As Joffrey and the others returned from the pier, a large number of commoners spontaneously gathered on both sides of the road to Aegon's High Hill.

"Your Majesty, we are starving!"

"Your Majesty, give us something to eat!"

"What's the use of begging him? He's just a bastard!"

"Long live the King!"

"He's not a king at all!"

"We don't want war!"

Suddenly, a woman holding a dead baby pushed through the crowd. She knelt on the ground, blocking the procession.

Joffrey impatiently threw a silver coin at the woman, trying to appease her. The crowd scrambled for the coin, but the woman still held up the dead baby and refused to move. Cersei said impatiently, "Let's go, Your Majesty. We can't help her!"

These words angered the mother, and she immediately began to curse: "You, Queen Mother, are an incestuous bitch! It's all because of you that the war started, and my child starved to death! Why don't you die!" Then she threw the dead baby at Cersei. At this moment, someone in the crowd threw a lump of cow dung.

"Bastard! Executioner! ... Idiot! Tyrant!" All sorts of chaotic shouts, the crowd suppressed like a volcano about to erupt.

The lump of cow dung hit Joffrey directly in the face, and he was immediately stunned. Anger and humiliation made him tremble! He shouted, "Who threw it! Find him, bring him to me, I will kill him with my own hands, kill his entire family!"

His words angered the crowd, and they began to push the gold cloaks maintaining order. Tyrion saw that the situation was not right and immediately ordered the people in front to protect Tommen and Cersei and leave quickly. Many of the accompanying nobles also realized that this was not a place to stay. Only Joffrey was still there, cursing at the people: "You bunch of lowlifes, kill! Kill them all! Leave none alive!"

The irritable people, tormented by hunger, heard this and thought, hey! You little bastard, you need to be taught a lesson! Let's rebel! Sticks, bricks, hammers, and the like were thrown up, and the peripheral gold cloaks were just ordinary soldiers and were immediately dispersed. The guarding Lannister soldiers and Kingsguard were also ruthless, directly using their knives, and many were quickly cut down. The bloodshed on the scene further intensified the situation, and more people joined the riot.
