Chapter 537: I Belong With You
Chapter 537: I Belong With You
(Author’s POV)
"I called for him," Myra spoke, her voice hoarse and tired.
Both Alaric and Elio looked back as Elio reached for Myra’s hand. "Myra~ .... are you okay? Are you feeling dizzy? Should I take you to the hospital?"
Myra, with a lethargic gaze, shook her head, "No~ ... I am fine."
"But~ ... but, what happened to you? How did your injury~ ...." Elio’s voice shook, with pain, with confusion as he clamped Myra’s hand tightly.
"I slipped while taking a shower. Alaric only helped me," she lied, then looked at Alaric, who averted her eyes. He knew she hadn’t fully recovered. He knew he had gone too far. But in that moment, overwhelmed by those stifling emotions, he had almost done something horrible. Alex, in his mind, remarked, ’Even after how many harsh and cruel words you used for her, what you did to her, she is still not exposing you. Instead, protecting you in front of Elio, helping you to maintain your dignity. And you were trying to break the bond. She could have died, Alaric.’
Myra’s reason for lying was simple. First, she didn’t want anyone to know what happened inside the bathroom and just bury it as a bad experience. And second, she didn’t want the Everests brothers to fight against each other because of her.
Elio nodded his head, believing in her words. He then inquired, looking at Alaric, "But why did she call for you at this time?"
"I got some information about Zara and Wyatt Long, which she wanted to know," Alaric answered.
"You could have given her that in the morning," Elio said. He was a bit agitated. From what the scene unveiled, he could guess that Alaric had helped Myra into fresh clothes, meaning he had stripped her and seen her naked body. The thought alone was infuriating. But on one side, his mind channelled a conflicting thought, ’If Brother Al hadn’t come in time, what would have happened to Myra?’
In a soft voice, Myra spoke again, clutching his hand back, "Eli~ .... don’t blame him. I’m tired and want to get some sleep."
Pursing his lips, Elio hummed, "I will stay with you then."
Myra’s eyelids flinched as she immediately said, "No, you don’t need to. I am fine."
"No way, if you don’t want me to stay. I will have to tell your mother and father about your condition," Elio said.
Myra bit her swollen lip and said, "No, they will be worried for nothing. Don’t tell them."
"Then, I am gonna stay with you, and that’s final," he stated with authority. Myra gave in and didn’t decline this time. Elio turned around, shifting his gaze to his brother and uttered, "Brother, whatever matter you want to discuss, it can wait. She will be resting now. You should take your leave as well."
Though Alex didn’t wanted to leave his mate’s side, Alaric nodded. Even if he stayed, he wouldn’t have been able to look Myra in the eye. With one final look, he mumbled, "I’ll see you then~ ..." turned around and jumped out of the window swiftly. As soon as he landed, he started to sprint towards the dense forest area barefoot. He needed to calm himself and let his pent up emotions out. And a run in his wolf form was the best way to do it.
Meanwhile, inside Myra’s room, the moment Alaric was out, the air shifted somewhat heavy. Neither she nor Elio spoke for quite a while. Only the tick tocking of the clock on the wall and their breathing filled the otherwise noiseless room.
After what felt like an eternity, Elio decided to break the ice; he breathed her name out, "Myra~ ..." His voice sounded like a soothing melody she hadn’t heard in years. "You should be careful. You have just been out of the hospital. But once again you are injured. Seeing you like this, in pain, it fills me with sorrow and heartache." He once again took her hands in his and queried, "Tell me~ .... Brother Al, he really didn’t do anything to you?"
Myra pursed her lips; her thoughts were running wild with the intimate moment she shared with Alaric and the fallout after. Her face started turning red, but she replied, "Why will I lie to you?"
"If you say so," Elio mumbled. He then recalled their unfinished talk and decided to broach the topic. He started, his voice tinged with a hesitation, "Myra~ .... what I said in the hallway~ .... I really meant it. Every Single Word. You know~ .... this past year, how agonizing it has been."
"I know~ ... I am sorry. I shouldn’t have left without a word. Nora must have been heartbroken," Myra replied, trying to change the atmosphere.
"She was, but I~ .... my wolf, Leo and I~ ... ever since you left, we both were devastated. We were left bereft. Promise one thing: you will never disappear again. Never," Elio spoke, trying to lace his fingers with hers, but Myra acted first. Pulling her hand away from his grip, she answered, "I won’t do it again."
Elio looked at his hand. It felt empty, lonely, forlorn all of a sudden. Even though Myra was right in front of him, he could feel the invisible distance between them. This feeling of estrangement was crushing his spirit and wounding his soul.
Being alone with her, this was the perfect opportunity to tell her about the mate bond binding the two of them. Leo was eagerly encouraging him to confess, ’Eli, you couldn’t tell her before, but now is our chance. Myra is the fated mate the heavenly moon goddess has herself gifted us. You should confess to her about the sacred bond.’
Elio was unsure of whether to tell her now or not, but hearing his wolf, he concluded and decided to finally tell her. He started with, "Myra~ .... do you know anything about the mate bond?"
Myra’s eyes trembled at his question; her hand, which was gripping the quilt, crushed it.
Elio continued, "We, werewolves, have destined mates chosen by the goddess of the moon. Once we find that person, our destiny, our souls, our lives, they become one with that person. We can instantly recognize them in a crowd full of people. We can feel the other one’s happiness, their joy, their sorrow, their pain. They belong with each other~ ... for eternity and beyond. He stared straight into her hazels and said, "I belong with you, Myra. I belong with you."
