Chapter 173 - 159: Benefactor
The tea was boiling hot.
A large patch on the back of Silas Lockwood’s hand instantly turned red.
Luna Langley never expected her grandfather to lash out at her today. She was even more surprised that Silas Lockwood would shield her. After a two-second pause, Luna reacted quickly. She grabbed Silas’s arm and rushed him to the kitchen to run it under cold water.
"I’m fine," Silas said, seeing her panic.
"It’s so red, and you’re still saying you’re fine?"
Luna Langley turned on the faucet. A stream of cold water washed over the back of Silas’s hand.
Even with prompt treatment, the skin on the back of Silas’s hand still looked badly burned.
"We need to go to the hospital," Luna said decisively.
With that, she grabbed Silas’s hand and ran outside.
In the main hall, the members of the Langley family were still standing around. The old man still looked furious.
Luna grabbed her bag and tossed a parting shot over her shoulder, "Don’t bother saving me a seat at any future family dinners." Then she left without a backward glance.
The driver was waiting outside.
"To the hospital," Luna said.
"Yes, President Langley."
Luna held onto Silas’s arm the entire way to the hospital.
Seeing her brows furrowed in a constant frown, Silas comforted her again, "I’m really fine."
His hand hurt, but it was within a tolerable range, which told him it wasn’t a major injury.
"I’m sorry. This was the first time I brought you to my family’s home, and this happened."
"Don’t worry about it." Silas smiled slightly. "It’s actually a good thing. Now we have an excuse to never go again."
Luna paused, stunned for a moment, then nodded. "You’re right. I guess it’s a blessing in disguise."
She never wanted to attend those family dinners anyway but could never find a good excuse. Today had finally given her a reason no one could fault her for.
The two of them arrived at the hospital and checked in with the dermatology department.
The dermatologist examined Silas’s wound and said it was nothing serious. He prescribed a tube of burn cream and told them to just apply it regularly at home.
Back at Sutton Gardens, the first thing Luna did was wash her hands, preparing to apply the burn cream for Silas.
"Don’t worry about it, I can apply it myself," Silas said.
"I’ll do it."
Without another word, Luna pulled him over to the sofa.
Silas watched her.
"What are you looking at?" Luna asked.
"You’re acting a lot like a bossy CEO."
"You’re in the mood to joke? So it doesn’t hurt anymore?"
"It’s bearable."
Silas had a high pain tolerance. As she applied the ointment to the red, swollen wound, he didn’t so much as flinch.
Luna watched his expression out of the corner of her eye, but he remained as composed as ever.
"Thank you for today," Luna said.
"What?"
"If you hadn’t blocked that for me, I would be the one who’s hurt right now."
"You’re being too kind. Compared to you saving the Lockwood Group, this little injury is nothing," Silas said.
Luna’s heart sank.
’She knew it.’ Silas had saved her without a second thought because she was a benefactor to the Lockwood Group. It was just like his reason for agreeing to marry her—it was all for the Lockwood Group.
But Luna didn’t want to marry Silas because she was interested in the Lockwood Group’s projects. She wanted to marry him simply because she was in love with him.
Silas had always thought their first meeting was at the blind date a year ago, but that wasn’t true. The first time Luna had ever seen Silas was at an airport.
Back then, Silas hadn’t yet taken over the Lockwood Group. He was still the dashing Captain Lockwood of Zenith Airlines. Luna had been a passenger on his flight and had fallen for him at first sight. She’d never been able to forget him since.
When Silas ran into trouble, her marriage proposal might have seemed like she was taking advantage of his predicament. But the truth was, she was genuinely in love with him. It was just a shame that in his eyes, she was nothing more than his benefactor.
